About

The blog Confessions of an Accidental Choir Director went live on July 19, 2002. At the time of its inception, Confessions was one of the first blogs to chronicle the state of Catholic church music at the local level, and collect links to documents relevant to church music from all around the Internet.

Today, one domain purchase, two name changes, a one-year self-imposed church music sabbatical, and a two-year self-imposed blogging sabbatical later, CantemusDomino.net/The Recovering Choir Director has evolved with Internet technology and its author to highlight healthy manifestations of the so-called “High Mass Mentality” called for by the Catholic Church, both in the Ordinary Form and Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.

Perhaps more significantly (or perhaps not), Confessions is a record of its author and his:

  • ongoing development of a liturgical spirituality;
  • realization of the importance of liturgical music as sung prayer;
  • discovery of the need for liturgical music reform in the Latin Church according to the highest intentions of the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council and prior stewards of the liturgy.

The story continues, hopefully with Paradise as its destination…
